FROM IDEA TO FINISHED PIECE

Our Process, Step by Step

Every engraving we make starts with an idea — yours.

01

Our Process, Step by Step

Every engraving we make starts with an idea — yours. Whether it’s a heartfelt message for a gift, a logo for your business, or a design for home décor, we turn it into something tangible, precise and timeless.

We combine modern laser engraving technology with careful finishing touches by hand. Each stage is designed to ensure your piece looks exactly how you imagined — and lasts for years to come.

02

Step 1: You Share Your Idea

The journey begins when you send us your idea. This could be a simple message, a handwritten note, a logo, or even a photo of a design you love. If you’re not sure what’s possible, we’ll help shape it with you.

You can reach us via email or social media — and if you’re ordering through our online shop, simply add your personalisation details at checkout. We’ll always confirm the wording, layout and spelling before engraving begins.

03

Step 2: We Create a Digital Design Proof

Once we know what you’d like, we bring it to life digitally. Using professional design software, we prepare your text and artwork at the exact size and placement it will appear on the finished piece.

We’ll send you a digital proof so you can check every detail — the fonts, spacing, layout and scale. Nothing is engraved until you’re completely happy with the design.

04

Step 3: Material Selection

Different materials react differently to laser engraving, so choosing the right one is key. Here’s a quick look at what we work with:

  • Wood – warm, natural and full of character. Ideal for chopping boards, plaques, signs and decorative gifts.
  • Acrylic – modern and crisp, perfect for signage, business branding, or wedding table numbers.
  • Metal – strong, durable and precise, used for nameplates, keyrings, and industrial tags.
  • Glass – sleek and elegant, often used for awards, jars, and drinkware.

We test each design on the material type before engraving your final piece to make sure it burns cleanly and consistently.

05

Step 4: Laser Engraving in Action

This is where the magic happens. Using our precision laser engraver, we use focused light to burn or etch your design onto the material surface. The laser beam is guided by the digital file, meaning every line, letter and curve is cut with perfect accuracy.

The process doesn’t use ink — the laser removes a thin layer of material, creating a permanent mark that won’t fade or peel. The intensity, speed, and depth are adjusted for each surface, ensuring a crisp and even finish every time.

We use professional engraving software that controls the beam path, resolution and power level. For example, a dark oak chopping board may need slower, deeper passes to achieve contrast, while acrylic is engraved quickly for a frosted look.

06

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Once engraved, every item is cleaned, sanded (if wooden), and inspected by hand. We check for clarity, contrast, and finish. Wood pieces may be treated with a natural wax or oil to protect the surface and enhance the grain.

We take pride in presentation, too — items are carefully wrapped and packaged in eco-friendly materials, ready for delivery or collection.

07

Step 6: Delivery or Collection

Once everything’s perfect, we’ll let you know it’s ready. Orders can be collected locally in Barrow-in-Furness, or shipped via tracked courier anywhere in the UK.

We take extra care with packaging so your order arrives safely, no matter how delicate or detailed the engraving.

08

Step 7: Ongoing Care & Support

Your engraving is built to last, but a little care goes a long way. For example, we recommend lightly oiling wooden boards every few months to keep them looking their best, and avoiding soaking or dishwasher use.

If you ever need a repeat order, a matching piece, or help replicating a design, we keep your artwork on file — so we can recreate it quickly and consistently.

09

The Technology Behind It

Our engraving machine uses a focused beam of light — known as a diode laser — that operates at extremely high precision. The beam is guided by a computer-controlled system that follows your design file line by line, much like a printer, but instead of ink, it removes microscopic layers of the material surface.

Different settings control the outcome:

  • Power – how intense the beam is (higher power cuts deeper).
  • Speed – how fast the laser moves (slower speed means more depth and darker tone).
  • Passes – some materials need multiple passes for clarity or contrast.

By fine-tuning these, we can produce smooth, consistent engravings on everything from soft pine to stainless steel.
